I have an occasional miss or hesitation in my 1972 1800E.
It lasts a second and happens at highway speed or low speed.
I have noticed that the tach also bounces even when there is
no miss. Installed new tach and it is steadier than the old one
which would read normally then bounce all over 0-6000 rpm,
sometimes showing 0 rpm even while driving at 70. Then, after
a time it would go back to the correct rpm for the speed. The
replacement bounces just a 100 rpm or so. Thoughts?

Could be an intermittent failure of one or more components in/on the distributor causing both the miss and the tach problem.

Below are the links addressing these problems.

Please keep us updated on your progress and also report any other problems.

Thanks.

There are many possible causes for an intermittent hesitation or miss. One very common suspect is the throttle sensor. If the contacts are bent or dirty, it will most certainly give you a "miss". There is a thread on setting the idle that goes into detail on how to clean and set the throttle sensor. It's here: Setting-idle-on-a-B20F-D-Jetronic-FI-system

Good luck!

Not screaming in terror like the passengers in his car.
