I have a 1997 850R. The drivers seat belt is so short it barely firts around me. ( I am not a big person) I own 2 other Volvos a 240 and 960, and they have more seatbelt length than I need. Why did Volvo shorten the seat belt length? Can I find a way to lengthen it.? Did Volvo try to save money by shortening the belts?

Any ideas? I am sure that I am not he only 850 owner with this problem.

Thanks

MIke

I've not heard of this problem before. I am 6' 1" and 290 lbs, I am a large man and never had an issue with the belts. You may have a problem with the belt assembly. Is the passenger belt too short also? You can get a belt extension from the dealership for fairly cheap. Hope this helps.

OP: is it possible that the belt is stuck in the spool? Does the passenger side extend further than the driver's side?

IF I SIT IN THE DRIVERS SEAT AND PULL THE BELT ALL THE WAY OUT , IT JUST ABOUT REACHES POWER ON KNOB ON MY VOLVO RADIO. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY I CAN COMPARE IT TO SOMEONE ELSES BELT .BOTH FRONT BELTS ARE THE SAME.IS YOUR 850 A 97 ALSO?

CAPS LOCK IS UNNECESSARY!!

I was in a 96 today and the belt is just short of touching the button. Get in touch with your local dealership and they can help with a belt extension. Contact someone in the parts department.
If you are having issues or have issues with the local dealer, let me know and I'll see if our parts dept. can help.
