Any tips on replacing the emergency (hand brake) lever boot
looks like cut the old one off at the elastic opening & remove the boot & 'plastic collar '
set the replacement one with the plastic collar in the sun to warm up a bit
slip on over the handle & push the lower end first & then snap in the upper end in
Any tips?

Them what knows recommends ordering the new boot using your S80's VIN which gets the correct part and the correct color.

Open the console cover by pushing the small button to the far right in front of the cover edge and lifting up on the cover front edge.

Once you have the console open, pull the parking brake handle up. Look for a small slot in the back of the plastic portion of the parking brake handle cover. Insert your flat-bit screwdriver into the slot:

Apply slight pressure on the screwdriver handle towards the rear of the car to release the plastic retention tab. Lift up on the plastic portion of the cover and slide it over the handle. Let the leather portion of the cover turn inside out.

Once you get the whole mess hanging loose please share how you managed to successfully install the new boot.

Thanks.

Your instructions for getting the boot off worked well! (The label on the inside calls it a "gator.") When the upholstery shop tried to put new vinyl on the boot frame, they couldn't separate the plastic trim. The short version of the story is that I ended up buying the boot from the local Volvo dealer. They were able to check color with the VIN, and while they had to order it in, it only took a couple days. It was about $43. Putting it on was a piece of cake - they trickiest part was getting all the tabs in the right place. My suggestion for anyone with failing material on the boot or the console/arm rest is to just get new ones from the dealer and skip the upholstery shop.
